<title>Applications of the Poisson and diffusion equations to materials science</title>
<link>https://repositorioinstitucional.ufpso.edu.co:443/xmlui/handle/20.500.14167/5787</link>
<description>Applications of the Poisson and diffusion equations to materials science
Nolasco Serna, Christian; Jácome Castilla, Naydú Judith; Hurado Lugo, Naudin Alejandro
The scope of a variety of experiments involving the transfer of heat in engineering&#13;
applications is evident in research on thermal studies throughout the department of Norte de&#13;
Santander, Colombia. From the energy optimization processes in the brickworks of the province&#13;
of Ocaña to the didactic use in the Universidad Francisco Santander, Ocaña, Colombia. In this&#13;
sense, mathematical models will be a fundamental tool in the understanding of thermal transfer&#13;
processes. The aim of this work is to establish a mathematical model by numerical methods to&#13;
determine the physical process of heat transfer in liquid crystal. For the data acquisition, an&#13;
experiment that measures thermal properties on an aluminum plate was designed. We proceed&#13;
to propose a mathematical model that uses the Poisson equation. Also, we proceed to calculate&#13;
the solution of the equation by the finite difference method and then make a comparison with the&#13;
analytical solution and the experimental data.

<title>Mathematical model of physical process of heat transfer in liquid crystal</title>

<description>Mathematical model of physical process of heat transfer in liquid crystal
Nolasco Serna, Christian; Velasco Burgos, Blanca Mery; Cadena Morales, José Julián
The process of heat transfer by conduction is relevant in different context of&#13;
engineering and sciences. An example of this situation is confirmed by the study of the thermal&#13;
properties of liquid crystal sheets to measure the effects of heat transfer on metal surfaces. The&#13;
aim of this work is to establish a mathematical model by numerical methods to determine the&#13;
physical process of heat transfer in liquid crystal. For the data acquisition, an experiment that&#13;
measures thermal properties on an aluminum plate was designed. We proceed to propose a&#13;
mathematical model that uses the Laplace equation. Also, we proceed to calculate the solution&#13;
of the equation by the finite difference method and then make a comparison with the analytical&#13;
solution and the experimental data.

<title>Evaluation of uncertainty in determining the physical properties of concrete using Bootstrap</title>
<link>https://repositorioinstitucional.ufpso.edu.co:443/xmlui/handle/20.500.14167/5763</link>
<description>Evaluation of uncertainty in determining the physical properties of concrete using Bootstrap
Nolasco Serna, Christian; Afanador García, Nelson; Noriega Sánchez, Carlos J
This investigation analyzed the uncertainty of compression resistance in the average&#13;
statistics, standard error, asymmetry, kurtosis and confidence intervals taking into account the&#13;
Bootstrap method. The implementation of the Bootstrap method in determining the physical&#13;
properties of the material used in the construction of buildings, is a fundamental tool to establish&#13;
the physical behavior of existing buildings. The application of the Bootstrap method allowed&#13;
estimating the statistics for the reported dosages with different samples; 1:2:2, allowing to&#13;
estimate statistics. The results allowed to determine the probability density function of the&#13;
average value of the compressive strength and with it, probabilistic resistance values can be&#13;
established. This research determined statistical results of the compressive strength vital to&#13;
carry out revision, vulnerability and structural reinforcement studies of existing buildings in the&#13;
municipality of Oca˜na, Colombia.
